13 Forest Art Gallery

I drive up and down Mass Ave a lot, and have always eyed this little art gallery called 13 Forest in East Arlington.  Well I finally had some free time and I spotted a parking spot right out front so I pulled over and went insideThe owner, Mark Gurton, was so friendly and helpful as I strolled through the space, sharing the history of the gallery as well as how he finds and supports New England based artists.  13 Forest's mission is to make art buying fun, straightforward, and accessible to all, which I'm totally in sync with as part of my mission as a designer is making design accessible to more groups of people.

They have a rotating exhibition every 6-8 weeks. When I was there it was a collection by Mia Cross called Second Skin in which she focused on pulling pigment colors from people's skin. The current exhibit is called State of the Union which is a direct response from artists to the 2016 election and current state of affairs. Making lemons out of lemonade. I'm excited to check it out soon.

The gallery has a mix of painting, prints, photography, sculpture, and even jewelry in the shop.  All at different price points and many priced very well.  They also offer payment plans.  I'd highly recommend stopping in if you are interested in starting a collection, adding to a collection, or buying a unique gift.

Here are a few pieces that I loved.
