The Barn at 17

I finally stopped in at the The Barn at 17 in Somerville which sadly, I had never even heard of until after I moved out of the neighborhood.  The Barn at 17 is an antique market specializing in Continental, American, Post Modern and Rustic one-of-a-kinds.  It was founded in 1999 and has become a go-to shopping destination for Boston's top designers.  This is NOT a place to go for a bargain but is a place to find a unique and beautifully cared for piece.  They also restore antique furniture and do an incredible job.  Some of the regency dining tables were just stunning.  It's very heavy on traditional furnishings and accessories, which isn't exactly my personal taste, but for the right person or client, this place would be a jackpot!

A very non-descript building from the outside, you really have to go out of your way to find this gem.

This secretary desk is more contemporary and the white feels unexpected to me.

This early English 19th century George II mahogany bookcase was stunning in person. And it could go traditional or modern depending on the room.  I love the geometric pattern on the glass doors.

They have a pair of these Staffordshire lamps which I think would be fun in a more eclectic room.

This antique apothecary cabinet was super cool - a great place to store little odds and ends.

They had lots of little "creatures" throughout the store like the ones above.  I'm kind of obsessed with the golden retriever.

Of course I found the only two abstract pieces of art in the place.  I didn't ask, but I assume they're from the same artist.

If you're ever in Somerville and have some time to spare, definitely check it out!  Especially since they will be moving at some point this year...true to Somerville real estate, the building has been sold and will make way to 200+ luxury condos soon :(
