One Room Challenge: Week One (The Sad Powder Room)

I am so excited to participate in the One Room Challenge as a guest participant. The One Room Challenge is a bi-annual event where 20 prominent bloggers transform a space and share their progress over the course of 6 weeks with their followers.  Guest bloggers (like me) are also encouraged to participate and share how they transform a room of their own.  I can't wait to see what some of the bloggers do, especially Nicole from Making it Lovely, as she is a favorite blogger of mine (and someone I had the pleasure of working with in my marketing days).  Visit this ORC guest participant page to see all the entries.

I've been wanting to update our sad little powder room since we moved into our home nearly 2 years ago.  I've decided to do this on a pretty tight budget in case we decide to add on to our home later and redo this room.  I plan on sharing the cost of everything with readers so they can understand what small updates can do to transform a space.  Here's the before:

Sad right?  The walls are "institution green" as I like to call them - they'll be getting either a paint or wallpaper makeover. I'm very torn on which to do! The wainscoting is okay, but I'd prefer it to be painted white or a bold color.  I've decided not to remove it as I don't want to deal with fixing the walls underneath.  The vanity is not necessarily my style, but it's only a few years old so I'll likely just paint it and give it some new hardware. The tile is neutral and not something I would have chosen, however, it's also staying.  And the window shade is old and dusty - in desperate need of a replacement, likely with a cute, patterned roman shade.

Below are some images I'm using as inspiration.  Next week I plan to share the color scheme and whether or not I am deciding to go with wallpaper or paint.  I can't wait to share my progress with you!
